Spring in Hawai'i

While technically it's spring now, I have to admit it feels an awful lot like it's summer already here on the North Shore. The surf is getting smaller, the beaches are more crowded, warm blankets are going into storage, and humidity is regularly below 70%. We worry a bit about the lack of rain this winter and spring - it could be a summer with a lot of irrigating for us!

There isn't a ton to share since the last update. Valerie is surfing a ton (nothing new), and progressing well as a surfer. I'm cooking a lot (again, nothing new), and have had some breakthroughs of my own in this area. Work has been more than a bit insane (for both of us), but life is good.

We've had various visitors (Paul and Marie, Killian and Sean, Catherine and Lulu) which was nice. We love getting a chance to share this amazing place we get to call home with other people -- and to expose them to the aloha that makes everything so special.

We roasted a pig for the hui down at Kalihiwai, which was a great experience.

And we took a little long weekend vacation over on the Big Island. The idea was to schedule it for the rainiest season and have a chance to dry out - but it's been unusually dry. It was still an amazing short vacation and a fantastic break.

March was The Month of the Wok for me. I decided to make a concentrated effort to learn good wok technique and understand cooking with the wok better. It was a great experience.

Otherwise we're just sitting out here in the middle of the Pacific filled with wonder, surrounded by incredible people, living the reality we chose.
